There’s still snow on the ground, and it’s still cold outside, but those calm sunny days wake up those cluster flies and we can see them zooming around the house and shop.
These flies move into your house in the fall thorough cracks and small openings on the exterior walls. They stay dormant throughout the winter because their body temperature goes down as the temperature around them decreases. As soon as they warm up they are on the move again. What makes cluster flies such a pest is that they all start to move at the same time, and create a hum in the attic and as they find cracks to squeeze through, their presence is soon found in your living area.
To help avoid these pests try to seal off as many openings as you can, but it is almost impossible to eliminate them entirely.
They can be treated, and usually take one treatment in the spring.
